This year Selle SMP will join BAM!. We took the opportunity to have a chat with Nicolò Schiavon, who told us about their collaboration with Urban Bike Messengers.

How did the collaboration between Selle SMP and Urban Bike Messengers come about?
At Selle SMP we care about the comfort and well-being of cyclists, and every day we are committed to creating ergonomic saddles to feel good on the bike. For us, the bicycle is the solution for a greener society, which is why we aim to cooperate more and more on sustainable mobility projects.
Urban Bike Messengers is the first bike courier company born in Italy. They make express deliveries in the city of Milan using cargo bikes and their service is totally zero impact. Their commitment is to guarantee a professional, fast service, attentive to environmental and corporate sustainability.
It’s natural that we met!
What is the day like for a UBM messenger?
They are 21 messengers, they ride their bikes every day from 9 am to 6 pm and each of them rides up to 18.000 km a year.

Did UBM messengers already use SMP saddles?
A couple of them yes, all the others rode on other saddles.
How did you set up this project?
The same way we do with any cyclist. We started from the physical features of each messenger: height, weight and above all the width of their sit bones, also taking into account personal preferences in terms of saddle padding level. We identified two-three models to go into the testing step, which lasted about two months.
I would like to underline one important thing: at the end of the test each messenger was lee free, if he wanted, to go back to his usual saddle.

What were the test results?
The test results were very positive: all the guys could find the right model for their needs and that made them feel good on their bikes throughout the day.
As proof of their saIsfacIon, today everyone rides on SMP saddles.
How to learn more about messenger life?
On Saturday, three UBM messengers will be present at BAM! with their cargo bikes. For those who wish, it will be an opportunity to have a chat… hopefully with a nice beer in hand😉 !
Nicolò, one last question..what does “Message in a Can” mean?
Do you remember the Message in a bottle? This was once used as a mean to deliver messages and stories.. and what stories were told.. well, we won’t be using a bottle neither the sea, but a can of Birra Impavida, our partner in this nice project as we both care about the future of our environment
