Explore local: in the Dolomites with Alberto Frizziero

giovedì, 13 Maggio, 2021

You don’t need to pedal in Alaska to feel alive.

Primo Levi said “not to be strong, but to feel strong”. For this BAM! supporters the “Explore Local”, of getting lost close to home, always being curious, without having to go far, also as a choice of environmental sustainability.

From this year we want to start telling to Explore Local stories and we will do it together with Campagnolo, a company that has chosen travel and adventure by bicycle as one of its worlds.

Explore local, staycation, new terms, old emotions bring back to the surface.

It is useless to go around it, the pandemic has changed us all, at least a little.

What weighed on you the most? Many of us will reply that the impediment of not being able to leave home was the biggest obstacle. And then the mind started to go round and round, proposing exotic destinations, distant journeys, but soon we took refuge on the sofa to look at the ceiling until we realized that that path behind the house was there that had been waiting for us for a long time and who knows what it would have been like to go back. We are convinced, we are children again when the distances were enormous and the environments infinite. We prepared the bike and left for that adventure that we would not have thought of doing before the Covid era. And so did Alberto with three trusted friends.

He took his gravel, mounted the biggest tires that could fit on it and invented a fantastic winter route among the most beautiful Dolomite peaks in the world.

Three days of wild bikepacking around Sassolungo, no support, no connection with the valley, only bikes, cold, snow and starry nights.

A unique experience that cannot be replicated in “normal” years since part of the track coincided with one of the most popular ski carousels in the world and for this reason it will remain indelible in the eyes and hearts of Alberto, Nico and Andrea.

Rediscovering the neighboring land, being an everyday explorer is no less rewarding than an exotic journey with hours on the plane, on the contrary it involves more effort, more attention, more study to find the detail that often eludes us. That detail that with an ocean between us and home, we often overlook, overwhelmed by being elsewhere.
